  • Homebuyer Tax Credit Extended!
    Posted on: 2009-11-06

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

President Obama has signed legislation to extend the Homebuyer Tax Credit. Passage of the bill was widely anticipated to further spur economic recovery in the housing sector, as more buyers are now eligible for tax breaks under the new law. The $8,000 first-time homebuyer tax credit was originally set to expire on November 30.

In addition to offering the $8,000 first-time homebuyer tax credit, the new law also allows a $6,500 credit for repeat or move-up homebuyers who have lived in their primary residence for five years or more.

The tax credits are available to buyers who sign purchase agreements on a new or existing primary residence between December 1, 2009, and April 30, 2010. Buyers would have until June 30 to close on their new homes.

There is an $800,000 price limit on all homes eligible for the credit. The income limits for all buyers are now $125,000 per year for individuals and $225,000 for married couples. Under the old program, the limits were $75,000 and $150,000 respectively. The first-time homebuyer credit is also available to those who have not owned a home in the previous three years. The credit does not have to be repaid unless the home is sold or ceases to be the primary residence within three years.

  • Recreational Boaters of California Proposed to Cal. Gov.
    Posted on: 2009-11-02
PLEASE READ THROUGHLY AND SAVE OUR REGION FROM THOSE THAT THINK THEY KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR CALIFORNIA. 'HOW MUCH WATER ARE THEY GOING TO TAKE WHEN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA HAS ANOTHER 3 OR 4 MILLION POEPLE IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?'Attached are proposed amendments submitted by Recreational Boaters of California to upcoming (Monday Nov 2) legislation that will help insure navigable waterways in the Delta are kept open for boaters. There is currently a package of bills awaiting vote that could potentially alter the delta forever in a negative way. Please contact Assembly Speaker Karen Bass and your other elected officials to make your voice heard. Boating is a huge industry in California and the Delta. If Delta boating is damaged then local businesses, fishermen, hunters, and property owners will be the losers in addition to the boaters.

In particular the southern part of the Delta could be land locked if the various gate projects come to fruition. This is critical as this legislation could be voted on tomorrow!

  • CELL PHONE USERS IMPORTANT
    Posted on: 2009-05-15
Bethel Island residents notify YOUR CELLULAR CARRIERS of the crappy coverage here? The cell guys are working towards getting the antenna in and they are telling me that complaints about the coverage here drives the carriers to expand into this area. Everyone that is not happy with their cell coverage needs to call 611 on their cell phones and let their carrier know, regularly if possible. This helps them identify the weak spots.

    Press Release & Community Flier
    Bethel Island Area, California

For several years the Bethel Island Community has been working with several county, state and federal agencies in developing a disaster and area evacuation plan. A key element of that plan will be the island siren system. This siren system will alert all islanders to seek higher ground above the floodplain. Those needing assistance should place the sign(s) facing towards the street and/or levee top. Lastly, the sign(s) need to be removed if you leave the building.

The Bethel Island Community is made up of structures that have living quarters located both above and below the floodplain. We believe this signage system will help fill a serious need for those residents having “limited mobility” issues and needing help to get to higher ground quickly.

The ‘HELP NEEDED’ signs will be available as a 8 1/2” X 5 1/2” DOOR KNOB HANGER/WINDOW POSTER (2) or 8 1/2” X 11” WINDOW POSTER. Each is to be placed on outside door knobs and in windows facing the street and or levee top, always with the “HELP NEEDED” side facing out.

The signs will be available at a number of island locations such as: the B.I. Fire Dept., Bethel Island Chamber Office, mobile home community administration offices & the Bethel Island Municipal Improvement District Office.

Those at risk should partner with neighbors, friends and family to develop a plan for an emergency response; neighbors should look after each other, specifically those with mobility issues, by making these signs available to anyone in need.

    for street signs
To insure safety and emergency responders can easily locate street addresses, the Emergency Preparedness Committee has established the House Numbering Sign Program. These signs are double-sided and reflective, and they can be placed on the street, levee ramp, and boat dock.

Make sure these responders can find your address. Order your sign now. If you are a low-income family, contact David Graas at 925.437.6592 to see if you qualify for a free sign.

Attached is an order form. Additional copies are available at BIMID, the Fire Department, and the Chamber office. Mail completed forms with your check made payable to BIMID/House Numbers to BIMID, P. O. Box 244, or you can hand deliver to the BIMID office at 3085 Stone Road.
